Award winning singer- songwriter Grace Barbé is a musician with roots in the tiny Indian Ocean nation of Seychelles; home to a unique culture that fuses Africa, Europe and Asia.
Grace’s music reflects and celebrates the diverse influences of her home; a colourful combination of island styles mixed with reggae, soul, funk and afrobeat – a sound she describes as “Afro-kreol”.
Grace exploded on to the music scene with the release of her debut single “Mon Arive” in 2007. The song achieved significant airplay, reaching the number one spot on the Triple J Unearthed Roots chart.
Hitting the road following the release of her debut album “Kreol Daughter” in late 2008, Grace and her 4 piece band have quickly become a favourite on the Australian festival circuit, appearing at major festivals including Byron Bay Bluesfest, Woodford Folk Festival and the Australasian World Music Expo. Grace has played support slots for acts such as Tony Allen, Fat Freddys Drop, Cat Empire and Antibalas.
Leading her band both on bass and guitar, Grace’s singing voice is a rare instrument of remarkable strength and versatility, capable of effortlessly negotiating the startlingly diverse mix of styles perfected by her band.
With her unique mix of island roots and contemporary sounds, Grace Barbe’s star is surely on the rise!

The rest of Big Bamboo is made up of some of Perth's most talented and hard working musicians. Core members include Shannon Puig who played trumpet in electronic flamenco band Tijuana Cartel.
